WASHINGTON, June 30, 2009 - The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors today approved the following project:

 

Pakistan: Sindh On-Farm Water Management Project

                                                              

IDA Credit: US$50 million equivalent

Terms:  Maturity = 35 years; Grace period = 10 years

Project ID: P116355

Project Description: The main objective of the Sindh On-Farm Water Management project in Pakistan to improve water resource management and enhance agricultural productivity in the project area through: (a) improving the efficiency, reliability, and equity of irrigation water distribution at watercourse levels; (b) supporting agricultural productivity enhancement measures to complement and enhance the benefits of improved water management; and (c) enhancing long-term financial sustainability of the irrigation system by fostering self-sustaining farmer organizations - Watercourse Associations - at the watercourse levels.
